The London Boutique

General shoe and boot care:

It is advisable after each wear to stuff shoes and boots to maintain the shape and keep your footwear as good as new. We advise either old newspaper or specially made boot or shoe trees to keep the leather in shape.

Leather Soles:

Most of our shoes and boots here at Lollipop London have leather soles and we do advise that these are covered before wear. We advise you take the shoe to a highly recommended cobbler to cover the sole with a thin rubber sole which will prolong the life of your footwear and protect the leather sole.

Heels:

We suggest that thin heels and kitten heels are heeled with metal rather than a rubber as these last longer and again will prolong the life of your footwear. If you decide to use rubber we recommend that these are regularly re-heeled to keep the heels in good condition. A large selection of our shoes come with an additional pair of replacement heels.

Leather:

We advise that you spray light coloured leathers - from shoes to bags - with a neutral protective spray to protect the leather against staining. Dark leather can also be sprayed to protect it against any harsh weather conditions. We also advise you use a neutral cream on leather of an unusual colour in which polish cannot be matched to ensure the colour is not altered from the wrong colour polish. Saddle soaps are also good to nourish leather. If you are looking for a good leather cream we recommend Woly shoe creams www.shoestringuk.com

Suede:

Suede must be sprayed with a neutral protective spray before the first wear. We would like to advise that to maintain the shape of suede boots after wear they are stuffed ( you can either purchase boot trees or simply use newspaper). Particularly if the suede gets wet it is advisable to stuff the boots with newspaper to soak up the moisture after wear. We also suggest a suede brush is used regularly to buff up the suede and get it looking as good as new.

Patent leather:

Patent leather is best wiped down with a damp clean cloth. A neutral shoe cream can also be used on this type of leather to condition patent leathers. There are also specialist patent sprays which clean, nourish and condition the leather.

Real skins ( For example a python skin)

With any real skins you need to be careful with how these are conditioned. We do recommend a neutral cream applied with a clean cloth. In some instances you may just need to use a damp cloth to take the surface dirt off the top of the leather.

Ribbon

If you are purchasing a pair of shoes that include bows or piping made from other materials please ensure that you also spray these with a protector to aid in the prolonged life of the shoe.

Insoles:

We suggest that if you are in-between sizes that you try a leather insole which are worn inside your shoes. You have a choice of a half insole which fits in the front of the shoe - these push your foot up and towards the back of the shoe and are best if you have find you have extra room at the back. Whole insoles make the size about half a size smaller and is perfect if you are between sizes.

Heel grips:

Heel grips stick to the back of the shoe and are used if the foot is slipping out of the shoe.
